Quintuple Play - A Platform for Converging Wireless, Web, Media, and Security Technologies

This laboratory session of DevCon 2008 uses the SH7722 hardware platform and Embedded Linux Operating System to build a networked media engine - based on Trinity Convergence's Vericall Edge - that can be used in mobile Internet device (MID) and IP voice applications. The presentation describes the hardware and software components used in the solution and discusses performance requirements, SOC architecture issues, and end-application use cases that expose potential bottlenecks and system design considerations. Hands-on work includes the creation and testing of a videophone application. The performance of the CPU is evaluated and overall data flow is analyzed. Results are described to clarify design issues relating to video streaming.
