MultiCore Architectures Usher in the Next Era of Embedded Computing

This presentation discusses the development of 8Giga-MIPS general-purpose embedded processors, asymmetric multiple-core system solutions, and mixed-processor controller architectures. It analyzes the reasons for applying multicore technology in embedded system applications and then describes the associated software challenges involved in doing so and the highlights latest solutions for overcoming those challenges. The trade-offs of symmetric multiprocessing and asymmetric multiprocessing are presented to provide background for determining the applicability of various multicore architectures to specific use cases.
