Developing Small Digital Picture Frames within Budget, to Schedule
This presentation and lab session explores the current revolution in home media networks and the convergence with communication and PC networks. It shows how systems built with processors with the Renesas SH-2A dual-issue superscalar architecture, and packaged with real-time operating systems, optimized software and middleware stacks, can deliver the performance required for still-picture and audio applications, on time and to budget. The presentation describes Express Logic's ThreadX RTOS, which is royalty free, has a small footprint and supports multithreading applications. It also describes Swell Software's PEG toolkit, which facilitates the creation of attractive applications offering Internet and digital entertainment capability. A digital picture frame that can play audio illustrates system layouts and functional flow. The implementation of this product is discussed in detail and its features and benefits are explained. Additionally, tips for avoiding development pitfalls are offered.
